Uploading a Battle Map
When starting combat from an encounter page, click the map icon next to the Start Combat button to reveal a file upload field. Select your battle map image and click Start Combat.
The map is displayed above the combat tracker using an interactive viewer you can pan and zoom.
Tokens
Every combatant in the combat is represented by a colored token on the map:
- Blue — Player Characters (PCs)
- Red — Monsters
- Green — NPCs
Tokens show the combatant's name on hover. An HP indicator ring appears around damaged tokens:
- Green ring = above 50% HP
- Yellow ring = 25-50% HP
- Red ring = below 25% HP
- Faded token = inactive/unconscious
Moving Tokens
As the DM: Drag any token to reposition it. All movements are saved to the server and broadcast to players in real time.
As a Player: You can drag your own character's token. Your token has a gold border and shows "(you)" in the tooltip. You cannot move other players' or monster tokens.

Clearing AoE
Click Clear to remove all AoE shapes from the map. Shapes persist on the server — if you refresh the page, they'll still be there.
Real-Time Sync
Everything on the battle map is synchronized in real time via WebSockets:
- Token positions update instantly for all connected users
- AoE shapes appear on player screens as soon as the DM places them
- No manual refresh required
