What is the Character Journal?
The character journal is a private diary for your character. Write session recaps from your character's perspective, track personal goals, record important discoveries, or just roleplay in writing between sessions. Journal entries are only visible to you.
Accessing the Journal
- Go to your character's page
- Scroll down to the Journal section — you'll see a preview of recent entries
- Click View Journal to see all entries, or New Entry to create one
Creating an Entry
- Click New Entry on the journal page
- Fill in:
- Title — a heading for the entry (e.g., "The Cavern Beneath Thornwall" or "Session 12 Recap")
- Body — the journal content, written in plain text
- Entry Date — the in-game or real-world date for the entry (optional)
- Linked Session — optionally tie the entry to a specific game session from your campaign
- Click Save
Editing & Deleting Entries
- Click Edit on any entry to update its content
- Click Delete to permanently remove an entry
Session Links
When you link a journal entry to a session, the session number and title appear as a badge on the entry. This makes it easy to cross-reference your personal notes with the DM's session recaps.
If your character is assigned to a campaign, the session dropdown automatically shows all sessions from that campaign.
Tips
- Write entries in character — describe events from your character's point of view for deeper roleplay
- Use journal entries to track personal quests or goals that the DM may not be tracking
- Link entries to sessions so you can look back and remember what happened in each game
- The journal is private — only you can see it, so feel free to include secret plans, suspicions about other PCs, or notes to yourself
- Journal entries are separate from the Notes Editor, which is a single markdown document. Use the journal for dated entries and the notes editor for a comprehensive reference document
