Using the Character Notes Editor

Last updated Mar 27, 2026

Opening the Notes Editor

  1. Go to your character page
  2. Click the three-dot menu (more actions)
  3. Select Edit Notes

The first time you open the editor, Lorekeeper auto-generates notes from your character data — ability scores, combat stats, spells, equipment, features, backstory, and more.

Editing Your Notes

The markdown editor includes a full toolbar for formatting:

  • Bold, Italic, and Headings
  • Blockquotes, bullet lists, and numbered lists
  • Tables and horizontal rules
  • Links
  • Side-by-side live preview
  • Fullscreen mode

Click Save to store your changes.

Regenerating Notes

When your character levels up or gains new equipment, you can refresh your notes:

  1. Click Regenerate from Data
  2. Review the freshly generated content in the comparison panel
  3. Choose Replace Current Notes or Keep Current

Downloading Your Notes

  • .md — Markdown file for any text editor
  • PDF — Styled PDF for printing or sharing

Tips

  • Great for session-by-session character journals alongside the Journal feature
  • Export your character notes as a PDF for a comprehensive character reference at the table
  • Notes persist between sessions — add your own backstory details, character goals, and session highlights
