What are DM Templates?
DM Templates let you save encounters and NPCs as reusable blueprints. Create a template once, then apply it to any campaign — useful for recurring villains, standard guard patrols, or encounters you want to reuse.
Saving a Template
From an Encounter
- Open any encounter in your campaign
- Click Save as Template
- Enter a name and optional notes
- The encounter's monster list and quantities are saved
From an NPC
- Open any NPC in your campaign
- Click Save as Template
- Enter a name and optional notes
- The NPC's details (personality, appearance, backstory, etc.) are saved
From a Generator
When using the NPC Generator, click Save as Template on any generated result.
Managing Templates
Visit DM Templates to browse your template library:
- Filter by type: Encounter or NPC
- View template details and notes
- Delete templates you no longer need
Applying Templates
- Open a template from your library
- Click Apply to Campaign
- Select the destination campaign
- A new encounter or NPC is created in that campaign using the template's data
The original template is preserved — you can apply it to as many campaigns as you like.
Tips
- Save your favorite encounter setups (e.g., "Goblin Ambush — 4 goblins, 1 bugbear") as templates to quickly populate new campaigns
- Use NPC templates for recurring character archetypes — the mysterious shopkeeper, the corrupt guard, the helpful sage
- Templates are personal to your account and work across all your campaigns
