What Are Campaign Templates?

Campaign templates are pre-built campaign starters that come loaded with story arcs, NPCs, locations, quests, encounters, and factions. Instead of starting from a blank page, pick a template that matches the adventure you want to run and customize it from there.

Every piece of content created from a template is fully editable — rename NPCs, rewrite quest descriptions, add new locations, or delete anything you don't need.

Finding Templates

1. Go to Campaigns and click Templates in the header
2. Or from the Dashboard, click "or use a template" under the New Campaign card

Browsing & Filtering

The template index page offers several ways to find what you're looking for:

• Search — type a name, setting, or keyword to filter instantly
• Category tabs — filter by Original, Campaign Setting, Legacy Module, Edition Event, 5e Sourcebook, Third-Party, and more
• Tier pills — filter by Free, Adventurer, or Dungeon Master tier

Available Categories

• Campaign Settings — Greyhawk, Forgotten Realms, Dragonlance, Ravenloft, Dark Sun, Eberron, Spelljammer, Planescape, Mystara, Birthright, and Council of Wyrms
• Legacy Modules — Keep on the Borderlands, Temple of Elemental Evil, Against the Giants, Ravenloft (I6), and Tomb of Horrors
• Edition Events — Time of Troubles, Die Vecna Die!, The Spellplague, and The Second Sundering
• 5e Sourcebooks — Curse of Strahd, Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft, Tales from the Yawning Portal, Ghosts of Saltmarsh, and more
• Third-Party — Drakkenheim, Grim Hollow, Odyssey of the Dragonlords, Midnight, and Ptolus

Using a Template

1. Click Preview on any template to see everything it includes — arcs, NPCs, locations, quests, encounters, and factions
2. Scroll to the bottom and click Create Campaign from Template
3. Give your campaign a name (defaults to the template name) and optionally edit the synopsis
4. Click Create — all the template's content is created in your new campaign instantly

Recommended Characters

Many templates show a Recommended Characters section on the preview page. These are pre-built character templates designed to fit the campaign's setting and story. You can create them separately from the Character Templates page.
